October 10: From France
La Vie en Rose
2007, Directed by Olivier Dahan
This is the celebrated story of Edith Piaf, the French cabaret singer who rose from a life in extreme poverty (her mother was a prostitute) to become one of France's - and the western world's - most beloved performers.
Introduced by Beatrice Henrioulle, WSU Dept. of Foreign Languages and Cultures

October 17: From Spain
Take My Eyes
2003, Directed by Iciar Bollain
Winner of 39 international awards, "Take My Eyes" approaches the topic of domestic violence from a very broad perspective, rejecting an all good or all evil position. This raw drama narrates the story of Antonio's struggle to control his anger and Pilar's attraction towards him.
Introduced by Vilma Navarro, WSU Dept. of Foreign Languages and Cultures

October 24: From South Africa
Yesterday
2004, Directed by Darrell Roodt
Set against the awe-inspiring, harsh landscapes of South Africa, this is a story about a young mother who discovers she is HIV positive. It's about joy, ignorance, simplicity, and compassion.
Introduced by Maury Barr, Community Colleges of Spokane - Colville Center, Humanities, English, and Communications

October 31: From Italy
The Unknown Woman
2006, Directed by Giuseppe Tornatore
